Crowded is a collaboration with choreographer Eva Perrotta and dancer Raphaelle Kessedjian of Nu Dance Theater. The initial idea was to cover a dancer’s head with shoes to the point of being overwhelmed. From this starting point, the movement and music were developed in close collaboration. All of the electronic sounds are controlled in some way by the sounds of the dancer‘s body and feet on the floor. The varying modes of interaction between the dancer and the electronics are a major structural element of the music, with the relationship between the dancer’s movements and the resulting sounds becoming more transparent as the piece progresses. It was performed at the Boston Dance Theater, Boston, MA in June 2009 and then again, at Triskelion in Brooklyn, NY in 2010.
